AGARTALA, Nov 3 If everything falls in right place, the OTPC expects to undertake commercial operation of Palatana unit-II by middle of next month, according to official sources.
The OTPC has already started pre-commissioning check up on the Unit-II of Palatana power project which is expected to take about 45 to 60 days.
Today, we have synchronised the Gas Turbine (GT) after receiving gas from the oil giant ONGC for beginning full-fledged pre-commissioning test, said Managing Director of OTPC SK Dube over telephone from Delhi on Monday.
Running commercial operation of Palatana second unit is not a problem but if it runs with full load, then OTPC will face evacuation problem as power transmission line is yet to be connected with national grid at Boangaigaon (Assam).
Dube said around 15-20 per cent of the total power generation will remain unevaluated if Palatanas unit-II runs with full load (363 MW) since the transmission line has been extended upto Ajhara (Assam) which is far from Boangaigaon power grid.
Interestingly, if the OTPC wants to run both units with full-load (726 MW), then it requires more gas from the ONGC. As per the agreement, the ONGC is supposed to supply 2.65 MMSCMD gas to the OTPC to run two power units at Palatana. Now, the OTPC needs 3.2 MMSCMD gas from OBGC if it wants to run the twin units with full-load.
Asked about arrangement of additional gas, Dube said, We have already requested the ONGC to supply more gas to run the twin plants with full-load and the persuasion is still on.
