Pre-centenary celebration of Sabha

MORIGAON, Dec 27 - The two-day-long Asam Sahitya Sabha�s pre-centenary year celebration programme came to an end today under the aegis of Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha.

Today, the programme started with the hoisting of the Sabha flag by Harendra Bora, president, Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha. This was followed by smriti tarpan where floral tributes were paid on the portrait of late Padma Nath Gohain Boruah, founder President of Asam Sahitya Sabha.

On the occasion, the construction works of Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha Bhavan (2nd phase) was inaugurated by Rama Kanta Deori, Chief Executive Member of Tiwa Autonomous Council (TAC). The TAC has sanctioned Rs 20 lakh for the construction of the 2nd phase of Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha Bhavan. The open meeting held on the occasion was presided over by Harendra Bora, president, Morigaon Sahitya Sabha.

Explaining the purpose of the meeting, Ajit Sarma, secretary, Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha dwelt at length on the activities of Morigaon Sahitya Sabha in the pre-centenary year of the Asam Sahitya Sabha.

Addressing the gathering, Rama Kanta Deori, CEM, TAC, appealed to the workers of Asam Sahitya Sabha to work for the unity and integrity of the greater Assamese Society. Narendra Nath Keot, former principal, Morigaon College also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, recitation and painting competitions among school students were also held on the occasion. As many as 40 branches of Asam Sahitya Sabha of Morigaon district celebrated the pre-centenary year of the Sahitya Sabha in various places.

BARPETA: The Bharati Adhyayan Chakra, the Sarthebari unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha observed the pre-centenary year celebration of Asam Sahitya Sabha with a two-day-long programme. A memorial meet was organised on Saturday afternoon in the public library at Sarthebari. Presided over by Prabhat Sarma, the meeting was addressed by Adhar Chandra Deka, Mrinal Malla Patowary, Khageswar Deka, among others.

They recalled the contribution of the doyen of Assamese literature and the history and background of the greatest literary organisation of the State. At the same time, they fondly remembered the contributions made by the people of this area towards the language and literature and their role in the formation of Bharati Adhyayan Chakra.

Ninety-nine flags of the organisation were hoisted in the historical Jagannath Temple campus at Sarthebari to mark the beginning of the pre-centenary celebration. Prabhat Sarma, president of the Bharati Adhyayan Chakra inaugurated the programme by hoisting a flag followed by other 98 flags by senior and leading citizens of the locality.

Sira Senehi Mor Bhasha Janani, the title song of Asam Sahitya Sabha and O Mor Aponar Desh were performed by the people gathered there.
