Pranabi Ram Baruah passes away

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 8 Noted music composer, lyricist and singer, Pranabi Ram Baruah passed away around 4-40 pm today.

He was 73.

Baruah, son of Geeti Kavi Parbati Prasad Baruah, had gone to Doordarshan Kendra Guwahati for a programme on the occasion of Dr Bhupen Hazarikas birthday today. When he came out, he complained of breathlessness and was immediately rushed to the International Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Born at Sonari in Sivasagar district in 1938, Baruah was a close associate of Dr Bhupen Hazarika and was instrumental in recording a number of evergreen numbers composed by Parbati Prasad Baruah in Dr Hazarikas voice. It was largely due to the duos efforts that Parbati Prasads legacy was carried to posterity.

A composer and lyricist in his own right, Baruah was the assistant music director to Dr Hazarika in Chiraj and Miri Jiyori. He also acted in films such as Chiraj and Ek Pal. He also ran a music school at his Japorigog residence in the city.

He leaves behind a daughter and a host of relatives.

His last rites will be performed at Navagraha tomorrow.
