Pramathesh Ch Baruah remembered

GAURIPUR, Dec 2 - Under the auspices of Gauripur branch of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, the death anniversary of famous film director, producer and actor Pramathesh Chandra Baruah was observed by organising a memorial meet on the premises of Gauripur Public Library on November 29 last.

After paying floral tributes and lighting of the ceremonial earthen lamp, the meeting was chaired by Satyabrat Chakraborty, president of the Sabha. Atul Chandra Ray, secretary, explained the objectives of the meet. The meet was addressed by Anjali Brahma, vice-president of Sadou Asam Lekhika Samaroh Samity, Ashoka Chakrabarty, retired Principal of PC Institution, Kshitish Chandra Ray and a few others.

The speakers recalled the contributions of Pramathesh Chandra Baruah, in producing films like Devadas, Mukti, etc., and advised the youths to follow his ideals and to remember him as an illustrious son of Gauripur. Prof Pranab Kumar Barman read out a self-composed poem about Baruah on the occasion.

Along with Baruah, the Sabha also remembered Amrit Bhusan Deb Adhikary, the 5th president of Asam Sahitya Sabha and Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami on their death anniversaries. The meeting was attended by a handful of Sabha members.

Seminar on library science: A UGC-sponsored two-day national seminar on �Issues and Challenges of Literary Professionals in Digital Era� and organised by the Alokesh ChandraBaruah Central Library in collaboration with the Gauripur branch of Asam Sahitya Sabha will be held at Pramathesh Baruah College here on January 20 and 21 next year. Interested students, research scholars, teachers and library professionals may send their abstract of research papers on or before December 25 through email: [email protected], informed a press release issued by the Library Department of PB College, Gauripur.
