Pragyan, Rishav, Ashmita clinch double crown

GUWAHATI, May 31 � Pragyan Jyoti Gogoi of Nagaon, Ashmita Chaliha of Guwahati and Rishav Sarma also of Guwahati won double crown in the first All Assam Ranking Badminton Tournament. On the final day of the championship at the Kanaklata Indoor Stadium here today, Pragyan won the boys U-13 and U-15 titles while Rishav bagged the boys U-17 and U-19 crowns. Ashmita Chaliha won the girls U-15 and U-17 title in the championship.

Hirak Jyoti Neog of Dibrugarh emerged champions in the men�s singles defeating Anjan Buragohain of Sivasagar 21-9, 21-13 while Kaveri Phukan of Sivasagar took the women�s singles title with a 21-12, 21-15 victory against Rituparna Kalita of Guwahati. In the boys U-13 title clash, Pragyan trounced Kingshuk K Bora 21-13, 21-6 while in the boys U-15 category Pragyan got the better of Tanmoy Dutta 21-19, 21-12.

Rishav had a field day today as after earning a hard-fought 15-21, 21-13, 21-11 victory against Kashyap Neog in the boys U-19 final he defeated Vishal Garg 21-10, 21-16 in the boys U-19 final.

The tournament was organised by Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) under the aegis of Assam Badminton Association (ABA).

In the closing function, Director of Sports Gaurav Bothra was present as chief guest. GSA president Rana Goswami and ABA secretary Omar Rashid were also present on the occasion.

Other final results: (Boys U-10) Ayan Rashid bt Ayad Rashid 21-17, 21-17, (girls U-10) Rajkumari Indrani Gogoi bt Debahuti Lahon 21-18, 21-12, (girls U-13) Kasturi Phukan bt Akanksha Khound 21-13, 21-14, (girls U-19) Ningshi Block Hazarika bt Harshita Chaliha 11-21, 21-18, 24-21.
