Pragjyotish College celebrates 67th foundation day

GUWAHATI, Sept 1 - The 67th foundation day of Pragjyotish College was celebrated with a daylong programme today following the Covid-19 pandemic protocol, according to a press release.

The college flag was unfurled by the Principal of the college Dr Manoj Kumar Mahanta. This was followed by garlanding of the bust of the founder principal of the college Trithanath Sarma by president of the governing body Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury. In his speech Dr Raychoudhury remembered the noble personalities at whose initiative the college was established.

A tree plantation programme was initiated by the principal of the college and saplings of some valuable trees were planted on the college premises. The audio recorded version of the college anthem was formally inaugurated by the president of the college governing body and the same was played amidst the gathering.

This was followed by the 24th Pandit Tirthanath Sarma Memorial Lecture organised online by the Pragjyotish College Teachers� Unit (PCTU) on the topic �A Panorama of Pandemics�. The lecture was delivered by Prof Vinay Kumar Srivastava, Director General of the Anthropological Survey of India through Google Meet.

In his speech Prof Srivastava said, �A good academician is one who understands the present time. One feels some sort of a natural experiment is going on because of the forces of nature, which we have sought to neglect.� He further said, �There is criticism of anthropocentricism, where human beings are centre of everything and the idea of omnicentricism is gaining ground where animals, birds and plants are given due importance,� the press release added.
