UMIAM (MEGHALAYA), Feb 24 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme today. The webcasting of the inaugural programme was organised at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, here to sensitise the farmers on steps towards development, a press release issued by ICAR said.
More than 100 farmers attended the event. The webcasting of the programmes were held in the presence of Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy.
PM KISAN scheme will provide assured income support to small and marginal farmers. The government has launched a historic programme entailing an annual expenditure of Rs 75,000 crore. Under this programme, vulnerable farmer families, having cultivable land upto two hectares, will be provided direct income support at the rate of Rs 6,000 per year.
