Practice yoga regularly for better mental, physical health: Sonowal

GUWAHATI, June 22 - The fourth International Day of Yoga was celebrated all across the State on Thursday.

NAGAON: The 4th International Day of Yoga was observed centrally at the Nurul Amin Stadium here where Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Union Minister Rajen Gohain, MLA Rupok Sarma, Angurlata Deka, Dimbeswar Das, Utpal Dutta etc., were present.

In the beginning, Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu welcomed the guests. Addressing the gathering, the Chief minister appealed to the people to practice yoga regularly for the development of their mental and physical health. PWD Minister Sarma observed that the practice of yoga is 5000 years old and modern science has also recognised yoga. He also highlighted the different achievements of the present Government� both at the Centre and the State.

Several thousand people from all walks of life gathered at the stadium from morning to take part in the mass yoga.

UDALGURI: Along with the rest of the country, the 4th edition of Yoga Day was observed in various parts of Udalguri district also. The Udalguri district administration in association with the Udalguri Block committee of yoga centre and 14 Garhwal Rifles, organised a two-hour long yoga camp and awareness meet at Bishnu Rabha Kristi Sangha in Udalguri town which was inaugurated by Dilip Kumar Das, DC of Udalguri district in presence of Col Rahul, Commanding officer of 14 Garhwal Rifles stationed at Golondi army camp.

North Lakhimpur: The International Day of Yoga was observed in different parts of Lakhimpur district by various organisations, institutions and government agencies. The district administration organised the programme at Vasudev Kalyan Trust, North Lakhimpur in association with Patanjali Yog Samiti and Krira Bharati. The function was inaugurated by Ranjeet Dutta, State Minister for Handloom and Textile and Sericulture (including Khadi and Village Industry) and Welfare of Minorities. Officials from the district administration, government employees and others participated in the mass yoga programme. The day was also observed in various schools and colleges of the district.

KALAIGAON: Yoga Day was observed at various places in Bhergaon subdivision. The Bhergaon administration organised the programme at the Parade Ground in collaboration with Ayush Patanjali, Udalguri District Committee and Ross NGO. DN Hazarika, SDO (Civil) Bhergaon, while presiding over the programme welcomed all the students, teachers, officers and public who attended the programme. The day was also celebrated by teachers and students of Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Tangla with various events.

Tezpur: The 4th International Day of Yoga was observed at Tezpur by various agencies. The Sonitpur district administration organised the programme at the Nehru Maidan here, which was formally inaugurated by the Minister for Water Resource and Science and Technology, Keshab Mahanta. DC, Sonitpur, Manoj Kumar Deka giving the welcome address spoke on the importance of the day. Besides the common masses, students from different schools and colleges took part in the programme.

Meanwhile, the Gajraj Corps conducted a yoga training session for soldiers and families in the entire corps zone wherein a total of 7600 personnel and families participated. The day was also celebrated at Tawang by the Indian army. The 24 Assam Rifles stationed at Lokra near Balipara in Sonitpur district also celebrated Day. Civilians/ex-servicemen, students and staff of schools and colleges also celebrated the Day.

RANGIYA: The International Day for Yoga was centrally observed under the aegis of the Rangiya civil administration at the Shiva Mandir premises on Thursday. The programme was attended by nearly 1000 people. SDO civil of Rangiya, Munindra Bordoloi, other government officials, senior citizens and members from social organisations, NGOs besides others attended the open session organised in this connection.

KOKRAJHAR: The 4th International Day of Yoga was also celebrated with the mass yoga presentation in Kokrajhar district. The day was centrally celebrated at the Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA) Indoor Stadium by the Kokrajhar district administration in association with Bharat Swabhiman Nyas, Patanjali Yog Samity, Kokrajhar District Committee. The programme was inaugurated by BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgoyari. A mass rally was also held on the occasion which was flagged off by the BTC Executive Member Doneswar Goyari. The function was also attended by Niranjan Baruah, Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar, Rajen Sing, SP, Kokrajhar among others. A yoga competition was also held in the day.

The Red Horns Division also celebrated the day in all the Army camps of Kokrajhar and a central mega event was also organised at Patgaon football ground at Kokrajhar.

Biswanath Chariali: The fourth International Day of Yoga was also observed at Biswanath Chariali under the aegis of the Biswanath district administration in association with Patanjali Yoga Samiti and Prajapita Brahmakumari Ishvariya Vishyavidyalaya at Biswanath College, here. State Minister for PHE and Cooperative, Rihon Daimari took part as the chief guest in the programme. Biswanath MLA Pramod Borthakur, Deputy Commissioner Dhiraj Jyoti Kalita, Additional Deputy Commissioner Parijat Bhuyan and hundreds of people representing schools, government departments, NGOs etc., participated in the programme. The Day was also observed by Gohpur subdivisional administration at Gohpur Girls� High School in association with Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Gohpur.

Kaziranga: Yoga Day was observed in many parts of Kaziranga. The main event was held at Forest Convention Center here where more than 120 participants including school children, members of Jeep Safari Association and local people of Kaziranga took part. The event was organised by the India Tourism department. Similarly at Diring Bagisa LP School, Kaziranga, more than 140 participants including school students, members of �Matri gut� and guardians observed International Yoga Day.

Bongaigaon: The 4th International Day of Yoga was also celebrated in Bongaigaon and Chirang district on Thursday. Minister Bhabesh Kalita was present in the yoga session organised by the Bongaigaon district administration at the eco development park in the northern part of the town.

Similarly, at Chirang district head quarter Kajalgaon, the district administration organised the celebration at UN Brahma College. Deputy Commissioner Ratul Baruah spoke on the importance of yoga practice.

DOOMDOOMA: The International Day of Yoga was observed at Learners� High School situated at Shanti Nagar, Rupai Siding here. On this occasion the NCC cadets of the school (63 Girls Battalion) performed mass yoga in the morning.

SONARI: International Yoga Day was observed here on Thursday under the auspices of Charaideo district administration and with the collaboration of Charaideo district unit of Patanjali Trust. Vivekananda Phukon, Deputy Commissioner inaugurated the programme at public playground stadium. Hridyananda Burman and Dipak Kejriwal, resource persons of North East chapter of Patanjali trust, Haridwar participated in the programme and imparted training. Jugen Mohan, Mahmora MLA was present as chief guest.

BADARPUR: Yoga Day was also observed across Karimganj district. The Karimganj District administration organised the Yoga Day centrally at the premises of Karimganj Civil Hospital, where it was inaugurated by the Karimganj Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Talukdar. The Karimganj District Development Commissioner Barenya Das, Karimganj SP Gourav Upadhyaya and several other leading personalities also took part the programme. The Pranaba Nanda Yoga School, Karimganj College Yoga Centre, Patanjali Yoga Sammity, Karimganj Rabindra Sadan Girls� College, District BDO Offices, Badarpur Patanjali Yoga Centre, the BJP�s Badarpur unit, schools and colleges also celebrated the Day.

Mushalpur: The official programme of the International Day of Yoga in Baksa district was centrally organised at District Sports Complex, Bathoupuri, Mushalpur. Besides, subdivisional office, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Army, CRPF ,student organisations, literary organisations and all units of Patanjali Yog Samiti from district to block level organised yoga camps. Over 200 school eco-clubs of Baksa observed the day. NCC cadres took part in yoga at Nikashi High School while students of Modern English School Health Society under the school Eco-club, Nikashi carried out plantation programme after the yoga session.

BOKAKHAT: The International day of Yoga was organised by the Bokakhat civil administration. More than 100 participants attended the camp in the morning. The camp was jointly organised by the civil administration and Ayush Mission, Art of Living and Golaghat West Development Block. Besides, the day was also celebrated at the premises of Bokakhat Sankardev Sisu Niketan.

GORESWAR: Yoga Day was celebrated at Bengnahati Community Hall of Goreswar in Baksa district by Baksa district Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Mahila Patanjali Yoga Samiti. The jawans of Goreswar CRPF camp also celebrated the Day.

JONAI: The fourth International Day of Yoga was observed at Jonai in Dhemaji district with massive participation of officials, villagers, housewives and students. The programme was jointly organised by the Jonai subdivisional administration, Patanjali Yoga Samiti, NSS Jonai Girls College and Block Yoga centre at Jonai Block auditorium.

GUWAHATI: The students, teaching and non-teaching staff of Icon Commerce College here participated in a yoga session at the College premises on the occasion of the International Day of Yoga, a press release stated.
