Postal Week celebration to end tomorrow

GUWAHATI, Oct 13 - India Post celebrates National Postal Week every year from October 9 to 15. October 9 is celebrated as World Post Day, which is the anniversary of establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) at Berne in Switzerland in 1874.

World Post Day is celebrated to highlight the role of the postal sector in people�s and businesses� everyday lives and its contribution to the social and economic development of countries. In this direction, India Post organises National Postal Week at the national scale, undertaking programmes/activities aimed at generating broader awareness of its role among the public and the media.

Along with the rest of the country, National Postal Week is being celebrated by the Assam Circle also.

Assam Postal Circle is one of the 23 postal circles in the country. It has a total network of 4,024 post offices comprising of 3,400 branch post offices that mainly cater to the rural areas and villages and 605 departmental sub post offices and 19 head post offices, according to a press release issued here today.
