GUWAHATI, May 21 � Due to the erratic water supply in their area, people of Pub Silpukhuri locality of the city are facing immense difficulties in carrying out their day-to-day works for the past several days.
Opposite to the Goswami Service point, nearly 200 households are affected due to the irregular or no water supply in their locality. Whereas the water supply wing of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has failed to point out any reason behind this scarcity, people are finding it difficult to cope with the situation.
�Adding to the woes of hot and humid weather conditions, irregular water supply for past 12 days has made our lives miserable. We have to buy water every day from private agencies but despite paying the price, we are not getting potable water,� Putul Das, secretary of Pub Silpukhuri Unnayan Samity said.
�For past several days, either there was no water supply or the timings of the supply were inconvenient for the people. It is of little use if water comes during the day time, when most of the members of the family are outside the house,� he added. Some people also alleged that there was a nexus between the GMC and private water supplying companies, which are charging exorbitant rates.
�We contacted the commissioner and the additional commissioner several times on the issue; yet, no step has been taken in this regard till date. The authorities even could not inform us about the reasons behind this problem,� a resident of Senapati colony of the area mentioned. It may be mentioned that many other localities of the city are also facing water scarcity problem.
