Poor repair of road alleged

By CORRESPONDENT

TURA, April 25 - The Phulbaru unit of the Garo Students Union (GSU) today objected to the alleged use of poor quality materials for the repair of the Agia-Medhipara-Phulbari-Tura (AMPT) road. Repair works on the road began on a few stretches, including the stretch between Nidanpur and Koylaghat, just beyond Phulbari in West Garo Hills.

Substandard stones and chips are being used to repair the road. The road is not meant to be repaired only for 10 days, said the president of Phulbari GSU, Francewell Marak.

The student body met the JE of PWD (Roads), seeking use of better materials for greater durability of the road.

The entire stretch of the AMPT Road will be repaired as Central funds have been granted for this purpose. While work on the initial stretch is under way, the road from Hallidayganj to Rajabala and then on to Pedaldoba will be redone after contracts are awarded.
