Pollution around Sivasagar Shiva Doul causes concern

By ANN SERVICE

SIVASAGAR, Aug 20 - The historic Shiva Doul here is a sacred centre of Shaivic tantric rituals in India and hence attracts tens of thousands of BolBom devotees during the month of Shravan every year.

This year too, there was a heavy rush among devotees participating in the ritual of pouring water in the Shiva-kunda. But outside the Shiva Doul, there is dearth of scientific garbage disposal system, which has led to unprecedented pollution in the entire area.

Heaps of garbage and used disposables were scattered everywhere. Further, there was open defecation along the road from the gate of Sivasagar Girls College to Fuleswari Girls HS School.

Hundreds of students, teachers and other pedestrians were therefore compelled to endure the nauseating stench while passing through the soiled roads under reference.

In the meantime, the principals of Sivasagar Girls College and Fuleswari HSS have written to the district administration to take prompt action in this regard. The citizens have urged upon the authority to open the Yatri Nivas in front of the Doul, instead of lending it to the traders.
