Polls to be referendum on bill: Ajmal

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Nov 15 - The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) today said that the forthcoming panchayat polls will be a sort of referendum on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, and added that the ruling BJP will suffer massive reverses in the elections.

The BJP government in the State will receive a proper lesson from the voters during the panchayat elections for all the misdeeds committed by it during past two and a half years. The government, which came to power promising to protect jati, mati and bheti, betrayed the trust of the people of Assam. Now the BJP government has entered into a conspiracy against the people of Assam by trying to forcefully impose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, AIUDF president and Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal said.

He said that instead of respecting the sentiments of the people of Assam, who have come out to the streets against the bill, the BJP is trying to play the politics of polarisation.

The panchayat polls are being held just at a time when the movement against the proposed legislation has intensified. So, the panchayat polls will be a sort of referendum on the bill. People of the State will vote against the BJP and the AGP and show their opposition to the bill, the AIUDF president said.
