Polling personnel allege mismanagement at lunch

By Correspondent

MANGALDAI, April 17 - Unprecedented chaos prevailed on the election control campus temporarily set up at Mangaldai College in the afternoon today as, due to alleged mismanagement of the authority concerned, the polling personnel didnt get proper lunch on time.

A section of the aggrieved polling personnel who didnt want to be named alleged that there was chaos in the dining hall as they had to wait for more than half an hour to have half-cooked meals. One presiding officer said that he had experience of ten different elections but he had never faced such a bitter experience of mismanagement as this time. I am going to retire next year. I have already handled nearly ten elections. But this time the experience was worst. Long wait, then half-cooked food. No officer available for supervision, he reiterated.

Some other polling staff alleged, Even the inmates of flood relief camps get better quality food than this. Many of our colleagues have to leave for their destinations on empty stomachs.

It may be mentioned here that the resentment of the polling officers was at its peak between 1.30 pm and 3 pm. However, around 4.30 pm, this correspondent while visiting the dining hall, found a few polling personnel having their meal of rice, dal and potato fry. They also alleged that the items were not cooked properly.

On the other hand, while talking to this correspondent over phone, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Dass said that the allegations were false and baseless and were the creation of some vested circles.
