Poll preparedness reviewed in Morigaon

MORIGAON, April 4 - The General Observer for 79-Jagiroad (SC) LAC, Narain Lal Meena, the General Observer for 80-Morigaon LAC and 81-Laharighat LAC, Vijay Pingale, and the Expenditure Observer, Akhtar Hussain Ansari, on Saturday reviewed the poll preparedness of the Morigaon Election District in view of the ensuing Assembly elections.

The review meeting was held at the Conference Hall of the DC�s Office, Morigaon, in presence of the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Rakesh Kumar, and the Superintendent of Police, Nilesh Sawakare.

The observers took detailed stock of various aspects, such as basic minimum facilities, standard voting compartments, facilities provided in the model polling stations, and special measures taken for facilitating the differently-abled, visually challenged, women, elderly voters etc. The district election officer apprised the observers about the latest status and other matters concerning the polling stations.

The observers also reviewed the mechanism for enforcement of model code of conduct (MCC) by the district administration. The Nodal Officer of MCC Cell, Pranjit Gogoi, apprised them about the functioning of the flying squads, static surveillance teams and excise teams etc., in the election district.

The arrangements to be made for the 48 hours before the poll enforcement were also discussed in the review meeting.

The SP apprised the meeting about the deployment of armed forces and security personnel. It may be noted that so far 10 vulnerable pockets/hamlets were identified in 79-Jagiroad (SC) LAC, six in 80-Morigaon LAC and six in 81-Laharighat LAC.

The observers laid stress on distribution of the photo voters� slips through the booth level officers at the earliest. They also suggested updating the status of the distribution of photo voters� slip on a daily basis. They also suggested that the contact numbers of the sector officers, zonal officers, block level officers should be kept ready with the respective returning officers and assistant returning officers. The Election Officer, Saibar Rahman, assured that the same will be done accordingly.

The observers also reviewed the transportation facilities taken care of by the district administration. The observers expressed their satisfaction over the preparations taken by the administration for the elections in the district.

Besides, senior officers of the district administration, the returning officers and assistant returning officers of the three LACs also attended the meeting.
