Poll machinery geared up for Tripura polls, says CEO

AGARTALA, Jan 18 - The election machinery has fully geared up in Tripura to conduct free and fair elections following the announcement of election schedule for the Tripura Assembly, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sriram Tarikanta here today.

Dy Election Commissioner Sudip Jain, who arrived here on a two-day visit had a meeting of District Magistrates of South and Gomati district at Santir Bazar and reviewed the election preparations, he informed while briefing the media in the Civil Secretariat here on Thursday.

Jain will be reviewing election preparation of all district to get a proper picture on holding a trouble free and fair elections, the CEO said. Tarikanta said the Election Commission will send sufficient number of general expenditure and security observers to keep a close eye on the election process. �The State is likely to get 300 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) for election purpose. The main priority will be to man each polling booth by CAPFs as demanded by opposition political parties�, he said.

There will be static surveillance team and web casting of polling process as much as possible to maintain transparency, he said, adding that valid voters will get time to include their names till January 31, the last date for filing of nomination papers.

Both CPI(M) and BJP welcomed the poll schedule for Assembly elections. CPM State Secretary Bijan Dhar said the party was happy that election schedule has been finally declared while BJP State president Biplab Deb said the party is fully ready to end the Marxist rule in Tripura in a democratic way.
