Political parties gear up for Panchayat poll in Dhubri dist

By CORRESPONDENT

DHUBRI, Nov 15 - Electioneering is gaining momentum as the political parties are now adopting new strategies to woo voters in Dhubri district.

The supporters of the political parties are also seen busy with their candidates so that they can capture maximum seats.

The parties have started conducting multiple block-level and booth-level meetings to show better performance.

Interestingly, voters of the district are in a quandary for casting their votes.

It may be recalled that in the last election the AIUDF had dominated the zila parishad.

Talking to this correspondent, district Congress president Uttam Kumar Sarkar said, The rural people of Dhubri have been denied benefits as the BJP has stopped providing developmental funds and schemes for them.

He also claimed that the voters would give a befitting reply to the BJP this time. BJP has done nothing for the bordering district, and, therefore, voters are completely disappointed with the party, he said.

AIUDF spokesperson, Masood Zaman said that the rural people of the district have suffered a lot due to lack of pro-poor policies of the Centre and the State as well.

Congress and BJP are trying to hoodwink the people by giving false promises, Zaman added.

On the other hand BJP district president Deepak Kumar Saha seems to be confident of showing better results in the Panchayat polls.

We are confident that the BJP would get maximum seats in the Panchayat polls, he said. Citing reasons in this regard, the BJP leader claimed that his party has provided maximum funds to the district. BJP has already taken a slew of initiatives for the rural people that will keep the district on the growth path, Shaha pointed out.

Our sanitation programme and implementation of PMAY scheme are enough to gain confidence of the rural masses and generate credibility among the people to consider us for the ensuing elections, he said.
