Political leaders visit Dhola to meet kin of victims

DOOMDOOMA, Nov 7 - The leader of the Opposition in Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, accompanied by Doomdooma MLA Durga Bhumij, Mariani MLA Rupam Kurmi and Karimganj MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, visited Dhola on Monday evening and offered condolences to the families of the victims of the Dhola killings.

Later talking to mediapersons, Saikia criticised the government for its failure in protecting the lives and properties of all sections of the society in the State. He urged all the people to maintain peace and harmony and not to make any inflammatory speeches that could destroy the age-old harmony of the society. He also demanded a judicial probe into the incident.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma also visited Dhola on Monday night and offered condolences to the families of the victims of the killings. He was accompanied by Sadiya MLA Bolin Chetia and Tinsukia MLA Sanjay Kishan. The minister also urged the people to maintain peace and harmony in the society. He also appealed to the Home department of the State government to take stern action against those who were making inflammatory speeches.

The editor-in-chief of Pratidin Times also visited Dhola on Monday and offered condolences to the bereaved families of the victims.

A peace committee was formed at Sadiya on Monday in this regard which will be headed by Sadiya SDO (Civil) Biswajit Phukan. Various organisations brought out a candle light peace rally at Dhola Bazar of Saikhowa on Monday evening to protest against such kinds of incidents.
