Political impasse deepens in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, Jan 9 � Eleven dissident NPF legislators including two Ministers, five Parliamentary Secretaries and four MLAs have resigned from the TR Zeliang Government deepening the political impasse in Nagaland.

The 11 NPF legislators in their resignation letters addressed to Chief Minister TR Zeliang on Thursday night said they have reigned from their respective posts with immediate effect. All the eleven in their resignation letter said, �Since the majority of the NPF and DAN legislators have elected Kaito Aye as the new leader of NPF Legislature Party and since you no longer enjoy the support and confidence of the members of the House, I hereby tender my resignation as Minister, Parliamentary Secretary, Advisor, Chairman with immediate effect�.

The NPF legislators who resigned are PHE Minister Noke Konyak, Agriculture Minister Benjongliba, Parliamentary Secretaries Torechu, Kropol Vitsu, Dr Longriniken and Deo Nukhu, and MLAs Namri Nchang, Dr Neiphrezo Keditsu, EE Pangteang, Merentoshi R Jamir and Naiba Konyak.

Meanwhile, the DAN-III Coordination Committee met at the residence of the coalition chairman Dr Shurhozelie in Kohima on Thursday and wanted an immediate end to the factional battle within the NPF. The DAN partners urged for immediate settlement of the intra-party crisis.
