GUWAHATI, Aug 3 - Assam Police Blues sailed into the quarterfinal stage of the 11th NN Bhattacharyya Knock-out Football Tournament organised by the Guwahati Sports Association.

In the pre-quarterfinal match at the Nehru Stadium here today, the policemen downed Sunrise Athletic Club 6-5 in sudden death. During the regulation time no team could score.

It was a low-paced encounter and no team could create any positive scoring opportunity during the whole course. For Police Blues Joseph Maslai and Monoj Boro tried to make the breakthrough in both the sessions with some individual efforts. But their final attempts did not bear any accuracy.

For Sunrise midfielder Clearance, the Nigerian player, showed ample skill in distributing the ball to his frontliners. But the attackers were not in good shape to convert.

In the tie breaker, N Bikash Singh, Kusha Rabha, Kajaigek Rongmei, Bol Neril Charai, M Nganthoiba Singh and Joseph Maslai converted all six shots for Police Blues while for Sunrise Benjamin, Ashoke Sain, Juwala, Maneswar Musahary, Kailash Gogoi were the successful shooters. Defender Abhijit Dey missed the sixth shot for Sunrise.

Today�s match: Maharana AC vs Ganga AC.
