Police zeroing on proxy candidate

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Nov 3 - The police are very close to zeroing in on the proxy candidate who had appeared on behalf of Neel Nakshatra Das in the JEE (Main) held in September.

Police said owner of city-based consultancy firm Global Edu Light Bhargav Deka has spilled the beans during interrogation, based on which the investigators are trying to get hold of the proxy candidate.

A senior Assam Police official said the investigators are now verifying the details pertaining to the proxy candidate after which further legal action would be initiated.

He also said that from what meets the eye Deka must have committed such frauds earlier as well, although the police are yet to probe that angle.

As part of the continued investigation, the police today raided the office of Global Edu Light located at Ambari in the presence of Deka and seized several incriminating documents along with laptops and desktops.

Earlier, the police also conducted searches at the residences of both Deka and Global Edu Light counsellor Kakoli Bujarbarua and seized several incriminating documents. Simultaneous searches were also carried out in Nalbari.

However, investigators are yet to locate the money trail which would be crucial in establishing that money changed hands between Neel Nakshatras father Dr Jyotirmay Das and Bhargav Deka.

In another development, the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Kamrup (Metro) today sent Dr Jyotirmoy Das, Neel Nakshatra Das, Hemendra Nath Sarma, Pranjal Kalita and Hirukamal Pathak to 14-day judicial custody.
