GUWAHATI, June 12 - Assam Police has initiated action against around 100 profiles on Facebook and Twitter, which �threatened� to affect peace and tranquillity in the State in the aftermath of the incident in Karbi Anglong where a frenzied mob killed two youths suspecting them to be child-lifters.
Further, police has booked 35 persons so far from across the State in the last three days for spreading hate messages through social media platforms.
The special investigating team led by Additional Director General of Police (Security) Harmit Singh has also found that 60 out of these 100 social networking platforms were fake ones and most of them have either been deactivated or deleted.
The SIT has been constituted by the Assam Police to keep a tab on the activities of elements trying to promote hatred through posts in the social media.
Meanwhile, Karbi Anglong police has so far arrested 26 persons for their alleged role in the lynching of Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Nath on Friday night.
These accused, according to the police, were part of the mob that lynched the youths, besides making the video viral.
In Guwahati, too, police has so far arrested six persons for allegedly posting �hate message� on social media sites and propagating rumours in reference to the incident.
�These individuals are trying to create animosity among people, which will not be tolerated. Anyone who tries to disturb public order or breach the peace and tranquillity of society would be brought to book,� a top Assam Police official told this correspondent.
Meanwhile, like in the last couple of days, residents of Guwahati today organised candlelight processions in various localities demanding the justice for Nilotpal and Abhijeet.
The Assam Association of the Deaf also organised a condolence meeting and demanded a speedy probe into the incident, along with the recent incident of unnatural death of a deaf girl at Lankeswar.
