Police yet to nab city bus driver

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 10 - Even though 12 days have passed, police is yet to apprehend the driver involved in the tragic August 28 road mishap at Bamunimaidam in the city, which led to the untimely death of Chandrama Nath (24).

Locals feel that the investigators are dilly-dallying the matter, probably because names of some influential people are involved. Who knows, the driver was probably drunk and or was driving the bus without licence. Otherwise, what is taking them so long? The aggrieved family should not be denied justice, said a section of people when asked about the failure of the police to arrest the driver.

The father of the deceased, Arun Kalita, when contacted, informed that it was only yesterday that a team of police recorded a written statement from Chandramas brother who was with her on that fateful day.

Chandrama, who was shifted to a hospital in Delhi from Guwahati, succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday.

Police sources said that the search for the driver is on.
