By Correspondent

TURA, Aug 12 - Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) suffered another setback on Wednesday after police commandos raided a training camp in the process of being set up to train new recruits who had recently joined the outfit.

According to a police release, SF 10 commandos from East and South Garo Hills districts hit and destroyed a camp of the outfit which was being set up near Dabalgre village at the foothills of the Durama Range.

The camp was being set up deep in the jungles for regrouping and training of new cadres for the already weak and broken GNLA. Left over GNLA leaders like Sohan D Shira, Baichung Momin, Baltush and Kartush were there in the camp along with around 20-odd new recruits, said Anand Mishra, SP of South Garo Hills.

Police sources also said that an equal number of ULFA/Bangladeshi militants were present in the camp during its destruction by police. During search of the area police recovered a SBBL gun, detonators, gelatine sticks, and ID cards. Police saw a lot of blood stains, possibly from injured cadres, in the place.

Later, operations were intensified to completely sanitise and dominate the area. The raiding teams were specially equipped with hi-tech gadgets and instruments to navigate and operate even in night time and bad weather conditions. In addition, new teams have been sent to camp at various tactical locations and conduct operations, stated the release.

This is a huge success for Meghalaya Police and a blow to the attempts of GNLA to regroup, said Mishra.
