Police officer roughed up by public

By STAFF Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 27 - Commandant of 1st Assam Forest Police Force (AFPF) Mihir Goswami, who was driving his vehicle in an inebriated condition, was roughed up by public after he rammed into a police post last night in the Dispur area and also damaged another vehicle plying in the same direction.

Goswami, a recipient of police medal for meritorious service (2013), also misbehaved with the owner of a beauty parlour located in the area last night in a drunken state, before he got involved in the mishap, sources said.

At a time when the law-enforcers are adopting strict measures to curb drink-driving cases, such a behaviour, that too by a policeman of such a high rank, has drawn criticism from various quarters. Significantly, this was not the first instance when Goswami has been caught on the wrong foot. Not too many months ago, he had allegedly threatened a woman at her beauty parlour under the influence of alcohol.

A case has been registered against the senior police official, although questions are being raised as to why no arrest has been made. No action has been reportedly taken by the Home department against the officer till the filing of this report.
