GUWAHATI, April 27 - Paresh Kalita, a constable of Noonmati Police Station, was arrested on Saturday on charges of forging the signature and the official seal of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Noonmati). Two more persons were also arrested in this connection.

Kalita allegedly misused the official seal to issue a police report needed to get an entry pass to Guwahati Refinery that is required for a casual worker. The incident came to light on Friday evening when a person approached ACP Pallav Tamuli.

Paresh Kalita was working an office assistant in my office. He used to issue police reports without my knowledge to casual workers of the refinery. During investigation, I found that in every such police report, having his signature, he used my official stamp without any authorisation, Tamuli told The Assam Tribune.

Police also arrested another two persons Durga Tewari, a casual employee of the refinery, and Pankaj Bora, who worked under a contractor in the city.

During interrogation, the trio revealed that they were involved in the illegal activities since January this year. We will carry out a thorough investigation into the matter. We have asked the Guwahati Refinery authorities to submit all relevant documents related to casual workers, Tamuli said. The three arrested have been booked under section 468, 409 and 419 of the Indian Penal Code and a court on Saturday sent them to judicial custody.
