GUWAHATI, Sept 13 - Police and RPF personnel had to resort to lathicharge after locals turned violent during an eviction drive carried out by Railway authorities at Pandu today.
Official sources said the eviction took place at the No.5 Ferryghat Colony at Pandu. During the drive, 16 concrete structures were demolished by the Railway authorities.
However, hundreds of locals came out to protest against the drive and shouted slogans against the authorities.
A scuffle ensued between both sides. Police, RPF and GRP personnel resorted to lathicharge and also fired tear gas to control the situation.
Officials said nobody was injured during the action.
