GUWAHATI, Aug 11 Assam Police Blues defeated Green Valley Sports Club by a margin of 2-0 goals in todays GSA Super Division Football League for the RG Baruah Trophy.

Robijit Jigdung and Ghanakanta Rajbongshi scored for the winning team in the 6th and 15th minutes respectively.

With todays victory, the policemen collected seven points from five matches and are in an advantageous position for a berth in the upper half. On the other hand, Green Valley are in a critical position with just four points from five outings.

The Green Valley players today displayed a better game and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions. But their frontliners lacked confidence. Sujay Dey, Clearence Carter Ezebube, Kwabena Yeboah, Sanjeeba Rongpi and George Prince toiled a lot and made the Police defenders run for their money. Sanjeeba and Yeboah squandered easy scoring opportunities in the second session. The Green Valley defenders, however, were in poor shape and lacked balance to restrict the fast moving Police attackers.

All the policemen were on their toes and forced the opponent players to toil a lot throughout the course. Police midfielders Manoj Boro was the power generator of the team and controlled the middle third of the pitch with perfect ball control and diagonal passes to his frontliners.

Madhusudan Hazarika Munna Limbu also provided him adequate support. As a result, Robijit, Kajaigek Rongmai and later Joseph Rengmai got the ball frequently in the Green Valley goal area.

Robijits goal came off a sharp drive. The ball deflected off Green Valley defender Dhanam Musahary and entered into goal deceiving their custodian. After the sudden shock, Green Valley defenders were in a fix and made several errors. Policemen took advantage of that and sprayed a series of attack. They earned a set piece and defender Ghanakanta beat the Green Valleys human wall with a swerving drive from around 22 yards.

In the later part of the match, the cops were in rampaging mood but due to some ill-directed shots and lack of imagination they missed several easy sitters. The margin could have been much bigger had the Police strikers not missed these scoring opportunities.

Nabajyoti win: In A division league SAI Sports Club beat Rising XI 2-1.

Todays matches: (Super Div) Sunrise vs GTC; (A Div) Rajbari vs Jewel Star.
