Police Blues outplay Town, in semifinals

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, July 10 With a facile 3-0 victory against Gauhati Town Club, Assam Police Blues stormed into the semifinals of the ongoing the of the Kaamaakaji NN Bhattacharya Football Tournament. In an one-sided affair at the Nehru Stadium here today, the policemen were in complete control throughout the course and overpowered young and inexperienced Town boys in all departments.

In the first session, Police attackers cracked the Town defence with fast-paced moves. Robijit Jigdung, Joseph Maslai and Naiking Manik Halam were too good for the Town defenders who could hardly counter the well planned Police moves.

Robijit opened the account in the 15th minute with a solo effort. Dribbling down the left flank, Robijit out-witted Town defenders and beat goalkeeper Richard Choudhury with a grounder. In the 21st minute, skipper Manoj Boro enhanced the lead with an eye-catching left footer. Maslai set the ball for Manoj at the top of the box who wasted no time to shot home.

After changing over, Town boys tried to make a comeback with a collective effort. But their ill directed passes spoilt all the moves before reaching the striking zone. Town mid-fielders S Boy Singh, Tapan Kalita and Basanta Boro failed to control the ball and as a result they could not set the ball to their attackers. Robijit hammered the final nail in the 68th minute with a header off a set piece floater sent by Bijoy Borgohain.

Young Town boys have to gather some experience for playing in big leagues as most of the players are yet to know how to handle pressure in crucial moments. Otherwise, some of the playes have good skill and speed. Todays match: ASEB vs FCI.
