PN Prasad selected as BCPL MD

By Our Bureau

DIBRUGARH, July 27 The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) of the Government of India has selected Prabhu Nath Prasad as the next Managing Director of Brahmaputra Cracker & Polymer Limited (BCPL), which is implementing the Rs 10,000crore Assam Gas Cracker Project at Lepetkata here.

Prasad is currently Chief Operating Officer of BCPL. He is also a Senior Executive Director of GAIL (India) Limited.

The post of BCPL MD was advertised some time ago following the removal of the then MD, JK Singh Teotia, as he could not achieve the desired construction targets on the project. Teotia was appointed in 2009 for three years but had to be shown the door as he failed miserably on all fronts as the captain of the mega project.

Though Prasad has been selected by the PESB after the interview this Monday, his formal appointment as Managing Director is still a couple of weeks away, due to procedural formalities in the Union Ministry of Personnel, Prime Ministers Office, etc.

An annual general meeting of BCPL will be held this Friday at Guwahatis Hotel Brahmaputra Ashok. Several important board resolutions are expected to be taken at the AGM.

Meanwhile, there is a consistent public demand here that the registered and headoffice of BCPL be shifted to Dibrugarh. It is also gathered that former Assam Chief Secretary, PC Sarmah may be inducted into the BCPL Board as a nominated director.
