GUWAHATI, July 27 � Several organisations have sought the intervention of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to bring normalcy in the strife-torn Kokrajhar district.
Social Justice Forum, Assam, in a memorandum to Dr Singh, said that the situation in the districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri had been very serious, with �lots of people having either lost their lives or their households by miscreants that have not been identified.�
It said that both the State and district administration remained a mute spectator to the carnage.
The organisation urged the Prime Minister to use his good office and take stem action against the perpetrators of such inhuman deeds and help in stopping the genocide and loss of valuable property.
It further urged the Prime Minister to visit the affected areas and understand the ground reality.
Its other demands included seizure of all arms available with the NDFB and BLT cadres and shifting them to the designated camps immediately, transfer of IGP, BTAD, and the SP and D0 of the districts concerned, regular police/Army patrolling in the affected area, setting up of a high-level inquiry commission to be headed by a Supreme Court Judge to find out the exact cause of the genocide, facilitation of relief and rehabilitation activities including setting up of medical camps for prompt treatment, and immediate compensation to all the victims of the violence.
The All Assam Shramik Krishak Kalyan Parishad, in its memorandum to the Prime Minister, said that during eight days of violence in BTAD, the religious minority community was the main victim and sufferer. �Thousands of thousand houses have been gutted to ashes and lives of people including minors of three months, pregnant ladies, and the old and the weak have been lost due to the tragic violence and it is spreading to other districts also because of the weakness of the administration,� it said.
It alleged that the �Bodo attackers� had the backing of the so-called Bodo militants, surrendered militants and above all the police and the administration as alleged by the local people.
The organisation demanded restoration of normalcy in BTAD and seizure of all illegal arms besides disarming of all surrendered militants and other arms-holders. It further demanded dissolving of the BTC headed by Hagrama Mohilary and imposition of Governor�s rule for at least a year.
It called for providing of food, medicine, shelter, sanitation and proper security to the affected people on a war footing.
