NEW DELHI, Jan, 9 Under a new road map drawn up by the NDA government, at least one Central minister will tour the North East every fortnight, in keeping with the Prime Ministers directive, while a festival focusing the region is on the pipeline to woo investors and tourists to the region.

According to sources, directives have been issued to draw up schedules to ensure that at least one Union minister tours the North East region every 15 days.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a meeting last week advised his Council of Ministers to lay special emphasis on the region. He had asked them to spend a reasonable duration of time in these States and chalk out their schedule.

Meanwhile, in a related development, Minister of State for Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr Jitendra Singh has said that beginning this month, his ministry will coordinate tours by different ministers of the Union Council to different States and districts of the North East by rotation in order to give a boost to various ongoing projects and works undertaken by the Central ministries.

Reiterating the Prime Ministers focus on the North East, Dr Jitendra Singh said that a meeting was held to discuss a roadmap for the North East.

Meanwhile, renewed focus is proposed to be trained on development of the tourism sector in the North East. The DoNER Minister said that a mega North East festival, billed as Focus North East is planned in Delhi to showcase potential and viability of the region to the rest of the world so as to attract tourist operators, film makers and holiday seekers to the region.
