DHUBRI, June 15 - The scheme that promises the urban poor with housing accommodation is already getting a positive response from the slum-dwellers and people from the lower income groups in Dhubri district towns.

The survey of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) was started by the urban local bodies in the district on June 1, with the help of ward commissioners, individuals and NGOs. Till June 7, the mission has collected as many as 7451 forms from the urban poor, who need new and proper accommodation. Under Dhubri Municipal Board, 3459 forms were collected while from Gauripur, Bilasipara, Sapatgram and Chapar town committee areas 470, 382, 578 and 2562 forms were collected respectively.

Meanwhile, with the motive that no genuine beneficiary is left out from the survey, the mission has extended its last date of submission of forms to June 14. The response of the mission is really good in the urban areas of the district. With this scheme a lot of urban poor in the district will get benefited, said Mahmood Hassan, District Development Commissioner, who also added that their initiative to extend the time of submission of forms would help them to include more people under the scheme.
