IMPHAL, Oct 24 BJP President Nitin Gadkari has urged Prime Minister Dr Mamohan Singh to lead an all political party team to Manipur to study the prevailing situation in the State arising out of the prolonged economic blockade.

Manipur is facing its worst supply crisis due to the economic blockade on the National Highways 39 (Dimapur-Kohima-Imphal) and 53 (Imphal-Jiribam-Silchar) the lifelines of the State since July 31 by Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) demanding creation of a Sadar Hills district. The United Naga Council(UNC), protesting the demand has called a counter blockade on the highways.

The BJP delegation during the meeting at PMs office on Friday also urged for imposition of Presidents Rule in Manipur by dismissing the ruling Secular Progressive Front Ministry in the State till a fresh election is conducted.

The BJP team in its memorandum observed that LPG cylinders are sold at Rs 1,800 per cylinder, petrol at Rs 120, diesel at Rs 60, kerosene Rs 50, cooking oil Rs 105 per litre while onion, potato, arhar dal, moong dal and pea are sold at Rs 60, Rs 40, Rs 100, Rs 110 and Rs 50 respectively against the pre-blockade rates of Rs 415, Rs 65, Rs 40, Rs 13, Rs 75, Rs 20, Rs 12, Rs 70, Rs 80 and Rs 25, etc.

The memorandum added We hope that the government will take immediate steps to put an end to the economic blockade and thereby do away with the feeling of alienation in the minds of the people of Manipur.

Meanwhile, States ruling Secular Progressive Front (SPF) coalition partner CPI staged rallies in various parts of the State in protest against the price hike. The party also submitted memorandas to the respective Deputy Commissioners of the State.

The BJP, CPI and Manipur Peoples Party have also urged both the Central and State Governments to take a definite resolution on the demand for creation of the Sadar Hills district to end the blockade.
