PM to honour State for foodgrain yeild

NEW DELHI, July 14 � Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will honour five States, including Assam, for achieving high foodgrain production in 2010-11 fiscal at a function here on Saturday, reports PTI.

The other four States which will get Rs 2 crore award are Orissa, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Tripura, an ICAR (Indian Council for Agricultural Research) release stated.

In addition, the PM will give away cash awards of Rs 1 crore to different States in individual crop category.

While Chhattisgarh will receive the award for rice, Haryana has been chosen for wheat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan for pulses and Karnataka for coarse cereal production.
