PM greets Meghalaya on Statehood Day

SHILLONG, Jan 21 � Meghalaya today celebrated its 43rd Statehood Day with Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeting the people of the State on the occasion.

In his message, the Prime Minister said: �My dear sisters and brothers of Meghalaya, my greetings on your Statehood Day. I extend my best wishes for Meghalaya�s development journey. During my recent visit to the North East, I was fortunate to have inaugurated the first train that brought Meghalaya on India�s railway map. This will add tremendous impetus to Meghalaya�s progress.� He further said that the Government is committed that the dreams of Meghalaya�s youth are fulfilled and they get an equal opportunity do well in their lives.

Meanwhile, in the State Capital elaborate programmes were held to celebrate the occasion and the Tirot Sing, Pa Togan Sangma and U Kiang Nangbah awards were announced that would be given to Rev Overland Snaitang (historian), Rev Greater Burn R Marak (social service) and Bansaralin Dhar (sports) respectively.

Apart from this, several prominent places and buildings were lit up and the day began with a Meghalaya Day Run, Motorbike and BMX bicycle stunts, a friendly football match between Shillong Press Club and Khasi Students� Union besides other events.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said: the State has limited resources and stakeholders need to ideate together. �We need to mop up resources so that the demand for investment and developmental agenda will commensurate. He further stated that in education, health care and employment the State still face challenges and hoped that things would be better in the near future.
