PM failed to fulfil Assams aspirations, says BJP

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Jan 10 Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stands accountable in the chargesheet prepared by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against the UPA government. The party alleged that whether it is detection of foreigners, updating the NRC, or protecting Majuli and the Kaziranga National Park, the Congress has always undermined the aspirations of the people of Assam as it only has interest in vote-bank politics.

This accusation was hurled at the Congress by top leaders of the BJP, including Gopinath Munde, Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Ravi Shankar Prasad, Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha while addressing mediapersons in Guwahati on Friday. These leaders alleged that a sinister ploy was afoot to stall the Assam Accord so that infiltration continued from Bangladesh.

The Opposition leaders, while slamming Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his alleged apathy towards the people of Assam, said that Manmohan Singh has used the State to further his political career only. What has Manmohan Singh done for Assam over the years? Did he give any specific project to Assam? questioned Ravi Shankar adding that Assam and the other States of the North East never benefited under the Congress regime.

Ravi Shankar said that the BJPs prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is going to honour the legacy of Vajpayee by caring for the interest of North East, particularly Assam. We want to assure that the BJP is going to take care of the interest of the people of North East and we want to give the promise to the people of Assam that the land transfer issue will be dealt with in the interest of the State, said the senior party leader.

Munde, on the other hand, said that the country has not achieved any progress under the present government which has failed to keep promises. The UPA regime could not check price rise and has created records as far as scams and corruption are concerned, said Munde mentioning that the most neglected part of the country under the present government is the North East.
