PM addresses election meet at Dumunichowki

SIPAJHAR, April 9 � �It is a fact that development in Assam will be possible only when there will be an atmosphere of peace,� said PrimeMinister Dr Manmohan Singh.

He was addressing an election rally at Dumunichowki under Sipajhar LAC. Addressing the largely attended rally, Dr Singh in his speech highlighted the various developmental schemes undertaken by the Congress-led governments at the Central and State for all-round development and called upon the voters of Sipajhar LAC to cast their votes in favour of INC candidate Binanda Kumar Saikia.

The rally was also addressed by MP Bhubaneswar Kalita, president of APCC and Major Ved Prakash, observer of the INC.

The MLA of Sipajhar LAC and INC candidate BK Saikia submitted a memorandum to the PM which highlighted the major grievances of the LAC and urged him to take steps for construction of a bridge over the Brahmaputra, connecting Kurua and Guwahati, construction of railway line from North Guwahati connecting the major areas of Darrang district, establishment of a technical institute to implement national tourism project within the LAC and also sought a composite irrigation project.
