Plea to revive paper mills in State

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Jan 5 - The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Cachar and Nagaon Paper Mills have called on Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley pleading for revival of the

two mills.

Briefing newsmen, general secretaries Ananda Bordoloi and Manabendra Chakraborty said that they are planning to write to the President seeking his permission to commit mass suicide, as the stalemate continued despite assurance from the government to revive the mills. The Nagaon Paper Mill has closed down on March 13 last year, while the Cachar Paper Mill stopped operations on October 2015.

The two office-bearers also expressed apprehension that in the absence of any fresh initiatives, the two mills might suffer the same fate as the now-defunct Ashok Paper Mill.

The office-bearers also opposed the attempt to privatise the two paper mills, saying that it will push their future into uncertainty. The government is not serious about revival of the two units of the Hindustan Paper Mill Corporation, they alleged.

It may be mentioned that the paper mill employees have been without salaries since the closure of the mills.
