By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 20 Voluntary organisation Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) has pleaded for immediate steps to install a life-sized statue of noted freedom fighter late Maulana Mohammad Tayebulla on the police point located on the Kanaklal Barua Road running between the Gauhati High Court and the Judges Field.

The voluntary organisation said in a statement here today that Mohammad Tayebulla had to spend a long period of his life in the jail for his role in the freedom struggle of the country. The sacrifice made by Mohammad Tayebulla to make the country free from the yoke of the colonial power was significant, it said.

The voluntary organisation has also pleaded for naming the rotary at the TC Girls H S School point on the GNB Road after the noted Assamese merchant late Bholanath Barooah. Late Barooah founded the Prince of Wales Technical School at Jorhat in the early 20 th century, when awareness on technical education was very poor in the country. He also set up another technical school at Silghat in Nagaon district. Barooah had borne all the expenses for setting up both the technical schools, said the voluntary organisation.
