By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, March 5 Voluntary organisation Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) today made an appeal to the States Director General of Police (DGP) to increase the strength of the police force as part of the modernization process of the force. It has also called for appointment of a police commissioner for Guwahati city.

An SGBG delegation, led by its president Dhiren Barua, met the DGP at his office today and urged for proper lodging facilities for the police personnel.

The SGBG delegation also called for steps to improve the relation between the public and the police. For the purpose, it suggested interactions between the people and the police.

Further, the SGBG delegation told the DGP that the police officers and personnel should be trained to be polite to the people.

The Police Department should pay serious attention to eradicate the nexus between some police officials and the land-mafia, which has been a cause of misery for many poor people of the State. Moreover, an end should be brought to the injustice perpetrated by a section of the police to the weaker sections of the people, the SGBG delegation urged the DGP.

According to an SGBG statement, the DGP was very positive to the suggestions of its delegation and assured steps to engage the police force for the benefit of the common people.
