Plea to consider Tibetan scenario in UN Climate meet

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 3 - The Foreign Minister of Central the Tibetan Administration, Dicki Chhoyang today appealed to the international community to make Tibetan environment problems the main agenda of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, 2015, which would be held in Paris from November 30.

Addressing the valedictory session of the 5th All India Tibet Support Groups conference here, she said that as the third pole of the world, the Tibetan plateaus importance must be realised for the environmental health of the entire planet.

The Central Tibetan Administration has launched a campaign called Tibet climate action for the roof of the world.

An environmentally strategic area, the Tibetan plateau is known as the roof of the world and the rivers originating from its glaciers are the lifeline of many Asian countries. Our 10-point call to action involves the United Nations, China and the international community, she said.

Along with the demand for recognising the importance of Tibet in the world environment scenario, it also called for a climate change research in the Tibetan plateau.

Meanwhile, the Core Group for Tibetan cause, the apex co-ordinating body asked the Union Government to confer Bharat Ratna or International Gandhi Peace Prize to Spiritual leader Dalai Lama.

Dr NK Trikha, national convenor of the core group while placing this demand said that such an action would make India proud. Provided there is any problem in conferring him Bharat Ratna, then he may at least be honoured with the International Gandhi Peace Prize, as he has been the strongest supporter of non-violence in the world, after Mahatma Gandhi, he said.
