GUWAHATI/ITANAGAR, Aug 12 - As part of the Independence Day celebrations in Arunachal Pradesh, a play on Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel will be presented at the Dorjee Khandu State Convention Hall in Itanagar on August 15, an official press release stated on Monday.

The cultural programme on Patel, also popularly known as the Iron Man of India � being organised with the cooperation of the Gujarat government � is aimed to promote aesthetic music, song, dance and drama to reinforce the spirit of patriotism, national integration, and the spirit of unity in diversity.

The play, to be enacted by a troupe of 25 artistes will be of 75 minutes. It is scheduled to begin at 2 pm on August 15. The play will depict the time, life and contributions of Sardar Patel to the country. It will be presented by theatre troupe View Finder. The play has also won the best play award from the Gujarat State Dance Drama and Music Academy, and has been performing in different parts of India in the last 17 years.

Sardar Patel was one of the most popular leaders during the struggle for independence. Post-independence, he served as the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Information, and Minister of States. His enduring fame rests on his achievement of peaceful integration of 562 princely states into the Indian Union.
