Platform height to be raised

NAGAON, Jan 8 � A number of organisations in Nagaon have constantly demanded the raising of the height of the platform at the Nagaon Railway Station according to BG norms. Now the Railway authorities have decided to undertake the project and most of the credit goes to the Nagaon Senior Citizens� Association.

On January 2, a delegation of the association comprising its vice president Bhupendra Chandra Das, general secretary Sarat Sharma, finance secretary Prabhat Goswami and member JN Khound met the NF Railway General Manager Ranjit Singh Virdi at the Railway HQ, Maligaon, and submitted a memorandum in this respect. As follow-up action on this memorandum, DGM N Kumar visited the Nagaon Railway Station on January 6 with technical experts. Now the Railway authorities are going to raise the height of the platform as per BG norms for the convenience of elderly persons, women and children.

Besides senior citizens, a large number of local people were present at the Railway station to meet the DGM, Lumding. They demanded the construction of sheds, waiting rooms with toilets, drinking water, adequate lights and a proper public address system at the Nagaon Railway Station.

During its visit to Maligaon, the senior citizens� association also met the Chief Personnel Officer of the NF Railway, Chandrajit Saikia, and the general secretary of the NF Railway Employees� Union, Munindra Saikia.
