GUWAHATI, Jan 4 A comprehensive development plan for better management of the civic facilities, traffic system and other infrastructure in and around the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital wIll be soon formulated.

Highly placed sources said the plan would be formulated by the Kamrup Metro district administration in collaboration with the hospital authorities, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), the traffic department and other civic bodies.

The plan is intended to ensure that the hospital, a major centre of healthcare in the North Eastern region, gets a better ambience and patients and staff are able to get a better service and working environment.

As part of the endeavour, a comprehensive parking and traffic plan is being chalked out.

The parking system in and around the hospital will be streamlined and scientific management will be carried out.

It will attempt to ensure that ambulances are able to access the hospital and park within the premises without any hindrance.

A separate space will be allotted for parking of trekkers ferrying passengers to and from the GMCH.

Besides, beginning from January 20, the GMC will set up a vending zone in the area. All shops along the road outside the hospital premises will be shifted to the vending zone.

In addition, the district administration has also decided to carry out inspection of pharmacies located around the GMCH to ensure compliance with medical norms and other rules.

Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner Dr M Angamuthu yesterday inspected the GMCH and took stock of the civic facilities.
