PIL against protests near Dighalipukhuri

GUWAHATI, Sept 11 - A PIL, filed by the Lawyers� Association, Guwahati (LAG) against frequent protests and picketing near Dighalipukhuri, was moved in the Gauhati High Court today. The matter has been fixed for hearing on September 16.

The petition was moved by senior counsel Nilay Dutta on behalf of the petitioners � LAG, advocate Sailen Das and advocate Amal Chandra Baishya before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Ajit Singh and Justice Achintya Malla Bujorbarua.

The respondents include the State government, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro), Police Commissioner, Guwahati, and DCP, Central zone. �The PIL is against the road blockades caused by such protest activities in the heart of the city, which causes innumerable miseries to the common people,� LAG president Sailen Das said.
