AALO, July 1 - West Siang District Magistrate, Swetika Sachan has banned all kinds of activities like fishing, bathing, picnic, etc., on all river banks during this monsoon season up to November 31 under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, a DIPR press release said.
All administrative officers of subdivisions, Circles, HGBs and GB, of the villages located in the peripheral of Yomgo river and its tributaries have been given specific directions to check such activities as the river can rise up any time in monsoon and create disaster.
The order was necessitated after a girl was drowned in Yomgo river while she was taking bath. The girl could not be traced even after search operations by police, army, local NGOs and family members. The police and schools have been instructed to check and give awareness on this issue to the children who are used to venture into rivers after school hour, the release added.
