Phulbari massacre victims remembered

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Dec 24 - The victims of Phulbari massacre were remembered on Wednesday with a daylong programme at Phulabari, Tinisuti, under Biswanath subdivision by several organisations, including Sonitpur district units of All Choutali Students� Union, Choutali Sahitya Sabha, AASA and ATTSA.

It is worth mentioning that altogether 30 people, including children and women, had lost their lives in a cold-blooded murder carried out by the Songbijit faction of NDFB on this day, last year. A memorial constructed on the occasion was also inaugurated by Manavendra Devroy, SP of Biswanath, followed by �smriti tarpan� by Pallav Gopal Jha, SDO (C), Biswanath at Phulbari.

An all-faith prayer was held at 10.30 am. The prayer was conducted by Rabin Ghatowar. The open session was chaired by Gopinath Choutal, president of Sonitpur Choutal Sahitya Sabha, while it was attended by several dignitaries, including MLA, Biswanath LAC, Prabin Hazarika, former minister Noorjamal Sarker, AASU central assistant secretary Duldul Borkataki, Biswanath AJYCP president, Dibyajyoti Baruah and Sonitpur Karbi Students� Union president Mangal Bey, among others.

The Biswanath subdivision administration also lighted 30 earthen lamps at Kamalakanta Kshetra, here in the fond memory of the departed souls in the evening.
