Photo Electoral Roll project launched in Darrang

MANGALDAI, March 31 � In view of instructions from the Election Commission of India, the process of Photo Electoral Rolls has begun in Darrang district along with the rest of the State . Razvi Hussain, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Darrang on Thursday formally launched the process by distributing publicity leaflets and requisite application forms to the Election Registration Officers, representatives from the political parties and the media persons in a meeting held at the DC�s conference hall. Earlier, ADC Hussain and Election Officer, Mangaldai, Animesh Talukdar explained the objectives of the programme and said that the BLO of every polling centre will go from house to house of every voter under the centre and distribute publicity leaflets upto May 15 next and then the applications will be distributed where a voter has to paste a recent passport size photograph of his own.

They further said that the voters need not panic that they might be debarred from voting right in any forthcoming elections if they failed to submit application in the first phase as the process will be continued along with the continuous updatation of electoral rolls. Regarding the �D� voters, the authority informed that the computer software in use would automatically restrict generating application forms of the �D� voters. However they pointed out that the Photo Electoral Roll has no connection with the Photo Identity Card.
