AGARTALA, March 15 BSF jawans and Central Excise department personnel today seized 65,000 bottles of contraband Phensedyl, worth Rs 1 crore, from Bodhjungnagar, about 20 km from here.
Acting on a tip-off, the BSF and Customs personnel intercepted a truck at Bodhjungnagar and during search recovered the bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup concealed under fruit cartons, a senior Customs official said. These cough syrups are used for intoxication in Bangladesh.
From last night we along with BSF have been on a hunt for these vehicles as we had specific information. Ultimately we spotted them at Bodhjungnagar industrial area. This item is smuggled into Bangladesh as there is huge demand, a Custom official said. PTI
